Behind the Scenes Retail Volunteer
Organisation: RSPCA Hull & East Riding Branch CIO (Reg. Charity No: 1209420)
Responsible to: Retail Supervisor
Location: Various charity shop locations across Hull & East Riding
Time Commitment: Flexible – we welcome regular, occasional, and short-term volunteers
Overall Purpose of the Role
Our charity shops raise essential funds to support the animals in our care. As a Behind the Scenes Retail Volunteer, you’ll help process donations, prepare stock for sale, and ensure items are ready to be displayed on the shop floor. This is a great role for someone who prefers practical tasks away from the shop floor, while still playing a vital part in fundraising success.
Key Tasks
You may help with:
- Sorting and preparing donated items (clothing, books, bric-a-brac)
- Steaming, hanging, tagging and pricing stock
- Preparing stock for the shop floor and replenishing as needed
- Supporting stock movement between shops (if able)
- Assisting the van driver (if able and appropriate)
- Helping maintain a clean, safe and organised stock area
What We Are Looking For
No experience needed — just the ability to undertake the tasks after training and a willingness to get stuck in, work as part of a team, and support a good cause.
What You’ll Get Out of It
- Experience in sorting, pricing and preparing stock
- A practical, active volunteering role
- Confidence, routine, and new skills
- Knowing your work directly supports animal rescue and rehoming
