At RSPCA Hull & East Riding, Volunteer Week (2nd-8th June)  is a time to say one big heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every person who gives their time, skills, and kindness to support animals in need.

Whether they’re sorting donations, caring for animals, planting gardens, or greeting customers in our shops — their efforts change lives.

“We can’t thank our volunteers enough. Despite financial and operational challenges, we are going from strength to strength and that is because of the huge contribution by our volunteers.”
— Fred Owen, CEO

Our Volunteer Impact in 2024
Here’s what volunteers helped us achieve:

  • 217 animals rehomed into loving forever homes
  • 15,745 hours donated by volunteers — equal to over £180,000 in staff time
  • 235 pet food vouchers given to struggling families
  • 120,000 donated items sold in our shops to fund vital animal care

Volunteer time is more than a gift — it’s a lifeline.

Saying Thank You
As a token of our appreciation, every active volunteer received a £10 Cooplands voucher this Volunteer Week. We hoped the small gift would show how much we appreciate those who make such a huge difference to our charity and the animals and people we support.

Meet Some of our volunteers
Throughout the week, we’ve been sharing volunteer quotes and introductions across social media, shining a light on the real people behind the paws. From long-time supporters to brand-new faces, we are inspired daily by your commitment and care.

Volunteer Roles We’re Recruiting For
We’re always on the lookout for kind, passionate people to join our volunteer family. Right now, we’re especially looking for:

  • Retail Volunteers – Help in our charity shops across Hull and East Riding with sorting donations, serving customers, and creating eye-catching displays.
  • Gardener Volunteers – Keep our Animal Care Centre’s outdoor spaces tidy, welcoming, and calm for animals, staff, and visitors.

No experience needed — just enthusiasm and a love for our cause!

“Thank you to all the volunteers for being the heart of everything we do. We are stronger, kinder, and more hopeful because of our volunteers.” — Fred Owen, CEO
