Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at RSPCA Hull & East Riding, bringing dedication, kindness, and passion to help animals in need. In this Meet the Volunteer feature, we’re shining a spotlight on Lydia, who is supporting behind the centres at Clough Road with Marketing and Social Media for the Branch.
Read on to discover what made her decide to volunteer with us, how she assists the charity, how she’s bennefiting, and importantly if she prefers cats or dogs.
What made you decide to do a volunteering role for the RSPCA?
I have always been very passionate about animals and wanting to help make a difference to animals who are in need. I am also a very creative person and in the past have worked for a small business helping with online marketing and social media and I have really enjoyed doing this. I have recently started a course in digital marketing and when I saw the opportunity to be able to combine both my passion for animals and creativity in digital marketing I felt like this would be an amazing experience. So far volunteering for the RSPCA I have been able to design art work for campaigns and create informative captions for posts, its been really interesting to learn the brands style as well as understanding the brands voice too.
How does volunteering for the RSPCA benefit you?
Volunteering is very rewarding it is really great to know that your helping contribute towards making an animals life so much better. As well as this, Volunteering also helps massively in a step towards what I want to do career wise in the future with digital marketing. It allows me to get the experience I need and to be able to build a portfolio around the work I have created for the RSPCA which should allow me to be able to gain access to fantastic job opportunities in the future. I am very grateful for this experience and how much it will benefit me as well as also being able to help support the RSPCA and gain more recognition for the animals.
What do you do for the RSPCA on a daily basis?
My Volunteering role consists of a lot of creativity and being able to create art work. For example, events days such as promoting the event with social media posts and news articles to help gain recognition and hopefully the more recognition an event gets the more people will be interested in going. I have also been helping to create digital cards which has been really fun to create a lot of different unique designs based around the animals for all different occasions such as birthdays. I have also been able to take photographs of different products to be sold online to help get donations for the animals. It is a really great experience and I have learnt so much about the RSPCA since being here the last few months.
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
I couldn’t say I have a preference really I absolutely love both cats and dogs and have been able to grow up with both of them. At home I have two cats, Romeo, who we adopted from the RSPCA about a year ago now he’s is very sweet and loves exploring. We have another cat Rhianna, who is 13 years old she just absolutely loves cuddles and she is very sweet natured. I also have a dog max who is also a rescue, he adores cuddles and loves a good long walk on the Westwood. I love how all my pets have such different personalities and feel so privileged to be able to grow up with them all and feel like I couldn’t pick between any of them.
