As part of a regular new feature we spoke to Chris Barker who volunteers at the Animal Care Centre for RSPCA Hull & East Riding. She has been volunteering with us for nearly a year now. Now that she is retired she loves to come and help!

What do you love most about supporting at the RSPCA?
I like everything about it really. It gets me out. I build my skills. I get to meet all of the lovely animals and it’s just quite fun!

Why did you choose us?
I did try volunteering on the land but that was a bit to much heavy work for me. This is just lovely because I’m guided by the staff, I’m working with the dogs and they let me know how I can best help.

Do you have a favourite dog here at the moment?
I love them all. My favourites are the little ones, since I’m over 30, they’re usually easier to walk.

We’d like to thank Chris for her volunteering efforts. She is a massive help to us. She brings happiness and warmth to our centre for both the animals and staff. Without volunteers like Chris, we wouldn’t be able to function.

We are always looking for amazing people to join our team of dedicated volunteers. We have lots of opportunities to get involved, from walking the dogs in our kennels, caring for the cats in our cattery, supporting our charity shops, or even maintaining our buildings. So, if you have a few hours a week or month to spare, why not join us in our mission to protect and care for animals!
