*** This article contains details of animal neglect that some may find distressing. ***

Leia’s journey with us is one of heartbreak and hope. When she arrived at our centre through the RSPCA inspectorate, she had endured unimaginable conditions alongside her four-month-old puppies. Confined to a crate far too small for even a single Akita, Leia was forced to share the cramped space with her young pups. She was often left without regular access to food or water, sometimes shut in for more than 24 hours at a time. By the time she was rescued, Leia was underweight, her fur urine-stained, and in urgent need of care.

Our team worked tirelessly to help her recover. With regular baths, nourishing meals, and gentle reassurance, Leia slowly began to regain her strength and confidence. What moved us most was her spirit – despite everything she had suffered, Leia showed nothing but affection. She thrived on human interaction and quickly became a favourite with staff and volunteers alike.

On Monday 1st September, we were overjoyed to share the happy ending she deserves: Leia has found her forever home. She will never again face neglect or fear – instead, she begins a new chapter filled with love, safety, and comfort.

Unfortunately, Leia’s story is not unique. Every day, dogs like her arrive at our centre in desperate need of care, treatment, and the chance to start again. Many of their stories cannot be shared publicly straight away, but each animal requires the same compassion and resources to recover.

As a self-funded branch of the RSPCA, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to continue rescuing and rehabilitating animals like Leia.
