Meet Katie, one of our dedicated volunteers at the RSPCA Hull and East Riding. Katie has been volunteering with us for six years, and her journey with the charity has been one of growth, connection, and a deep commitment to animal welfare. Let’s take a closer look at Katie’s experience and why she’s such a valuable part of our team.

How long have you volunteered with the charity?

“I’ve been volunteering with the RSPCA Hull and East Riding for six years now. It’s hard to believe how much time has passed, but every day has been filled with meaningful experiences and a strong sense of belonging.”

What’s the best part of your volunteer role?

“The best part of my role is the variety of work I get to do. I’ve gained experience in different departments, and every task is unique. It’s also incredibly heartwarming to feel like I’m part of a family here. The support and sense of community from the team make it such a rewarding experience.”

How has the charity supported you to volunteer?

“The RSPCA has been so supportive in helping me with my depression and anxiety. Coming into a workplace that’s full of positivity and surrounded by a team that cares has really made a difference in my life. I always feel happy and welcomed, and that’s not something I take for granted. The team has helped me grow in confidence, and I’m proud to be part of such a kind-hearted environment.”

Would you encourage others to volunteer with the charity shops?

“Absolutely! I always talk to people about the value of volunteering in the shops. We’re always in need of help, and it’s such a fulfilling experience. It’s not just about giving your time; it’s about being part of something that truly makes a difference in the lives of animals and people. Plus, you’ll always feel appreciated and supported.”

Why do you love the RSPCA Hull and East Riding?

“I love the RSPCA Hull and East Riding because it’s a place where people genuinely care. The team here is dedicated to animal welfare, and they always make me feel like I’m contributing to something greater than myself. I also love that I get to be part of a community that shares the same passion for animals and their well-being.”

What’s your favourite—cats or dogs?

“I love all animals, but I absolutely hate animal cruelty. Seeing animals thrive in a loving environment is what drives me. I don’t have a preference between cats and dogs—they both have their own unique personalities and needs, and I’m happy to help them all.”

Katie’s story is a testament to the power of volunteering and the positive impact it can have on both the volunteer and the animals we care for. Through her work at the Holderness Road shop, she not only supports our mission but also finds support, confidence, and a true sense of belonging. Thank you, Katie, for being such an integral part of our team!
