We were thrilled to take part in the inaugural Young Humber Ambassadors Event at the University of Hull on 9 October 2025. The event brought together around 250 pupils from schools across the region to explore career opportunities, share ideas, and engage with Humber’s Place Brand — and we were delighted to give young people a voice in shaping the future of animal rehabilitation in the region.

The event was opened with an inspiring talk that highlighted the values of care, compassion, and community — the very values that guide our work at RSPCA Hull & East Riding.

During our interactive session, delivered by Emma and Matt, pupils found about our history before spending time outlining ideas for a modern Animal Rehabilitation Centre.

Matt Wright Head of Operations Said: “It was amazing to hear the voices of the next generation. Their energy and ambition remind us why our work matters and inspire us to keep delivering for pets and their owners now and in the future.”

Dr Diana Taylor of Future Humber said the event “puts the brilliant young minds of Humber at the heart of shaping our future,” with thanks to Rose James, CEO of Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University, for helping make it possible.

Matt added: “it was brilliant to join many other fellow Humber Brand Ambassadors in setting challenges to inspire young people to share ideas for the region’s future — including how communities like ours can support animals and the people who care for them.”

RSPCA Hull & East Riding cannot wait to take these young people’s ideas forward and continue building a centre that truly reflects the needs of our community, its young people, and its pets
